Thread sorting question...
Posted by: maalsa

I mainly read the "70-83 Tech Discussion" forum and the "Member's Rides" forum and I noticed that in the "Member's Rides" forum, the thread that was updated last is moved to the top of all the other threads, regardless of when the first post was actually posted...

While in the "70-83 Tech Discussion" forum, the posts are just listed by the date they were posted. This makes it extremely hard to keep track of "active" posts. Also, sometimes questions are asked and answers aren't given until days later, or a problem is an on-going one that gets updated with posts from the OP, yet it gets pushed so far down the list by new threads that nobody sees the new posts, thus causing the OP to create a NEW thread when the old thread should be the active one.

Is there a way to make all of the forums like the "Member's Rides" forum?

Thanks! And thanks for the awesome forum!

Thanks for your comments. "Bumping" threads is something that has been tried in the tech forums before and ultimately did not work out. It is an exclusive function to the Members Rides section and will remain that way.

I think there's a clear distinction between setting up a forum so the threads with the most recent responses go to the top (something I VASTLY prefer) and "bumping". The term bumping is normally applied to a user replying to his/her own posts to keep them at the top. This can be dealt with by closing the thread or warning the user.

I find it almost impossible to use this forum for any problem that runs longer than 2-3 days, as my post disappears, and no one is likely to respond to it. My only option is to hunt for it or subscribe to every thread I start. I am fighting a problem that has been going on for some months, and other forums allow me to post and make my problem visible again.

I hope you will reconsider setting up the tech forums so that new posts move a thread back to the top of the forum.
