site suggestion

Split the 70-83 Forum into two forums. 70-78 and 79-83 would work.

1978 280Z -- Being restored and daily driver
1998 Dodge Ram --- 360 gas hog, sits in driveway
1967 Cougar XR7 --- Restored, driven daily, sold when boredom set in
1973 Mustang Mach 1 --- Restored, stolen by ex in divorce
1955 Chevy 2 door --- Towed from a barn, made drivable, sold by dad in '79

I have stickied this thread to gauge interest in this idea. Please respond within this thread if you have a constructive opinion about splitting up this forum as suggested. I do not know if we will make any changes, but I thought it would be good to get an idea about what you all thought.

Thank you.

I don't see a need for it. I think it would hurt a lot of the group dynamics here and as well, people that own one version but have knowledge to contribute to the other as well would be less involved with advice and assistance.

I like the 70-83 combination since the Z and 280ZX's share many parts and systems. Splitting the forum might cause an unnecessary inconvenience. I agree with Easyguy about the group dynamics as well.

I think it should stay the way it is because both have nearly the same motor and many people swap parts between the 2. It would also leave the 79-83 guys with a much smaller group of people.

i think its a great idea. i see other peoples problems that i can relate to but find out they have a 260 or 280z. i know the engines are pretty similar but as far as other things they are completely different.

I think it is a VERY BAD IDEA. I for one bought a 280ZX first then migrated to a 240Z. The knowledge learned from the ZX drive train crosses over to the Z as well & vice versa. I have helped & learned from both groups in this forum. It would be a shame to separate the 2 as I believe the 280ZX group would regress in knowlegde if left alone.

My suggestion - Moderators don't take suggestions from members with 31 posts to their name.

I kinda like the ability to look over the forum and be able to see the diversity. Some people may bias their time to just one model maybe? I know Ive gotten a lot of insight from Jeffp about the z31 eccs that may not have happened since I have it on a l28et in a s30, and jeff has a s130. Maybe sub categorize by component rather than year? I.e engine and electronics, and suspension and drive train?

I agree with the nay sayers, seems to me theres lots of similarities between the different versions and really no different then a 240 is from a 280.

There are scads of differences between the early Zs and the post '74 and later S130s. I think that a S30 board and and S130 board makes sense, beacuse the systems that make the car go are so different. The early Zs were largely carbureted and the latter Zs are largely electronic. Not that one is bad...the other good, but that they're totally different and inapplicable one to the other in many cases.

2 cents

I don't care for the idea because on the basic sense, the drivetrains are very similar so the maintenance, and modifications are all applicable.

There are many 240Z owners that have a later F-54 motor with a 5 speed, or a complete turbo setup, so which forum would apply to them ??

Keep it as is. It seems like traffic & content slowed down after the last major upgrade. 70-83 are similar enough to keep them together & people are always swapping parts. Many have multiple cars of each set.

I know that the vote can be split basically by what model Z you own. The purist S30 group will vote to separate from the illegitimate child S130's while they pillage them for upgrade parts. The ZX group will want the forum to remain as is.

My vote is to keep the s30 and s130's together in one forum. As stated the shared drivetrains and the interchangeability of parts would certainly cause people with hybrids to have to search for information in both forums. Talk about duplicated postings...

I'd leave it as is. (or have a separate 1976 280Z forum).

It's to crowded with both. I have no interest in '79-'83 and don't like loading a post to find out it's about an S130. If I post something, within a day it's on the next page.

I've got an S30 now, but used to own 2 '83's. I like the crossover as well. Leave the groups together.
