New to the site and just picked up this 1973 240Z last weekend. I have always loved Z's and found a great opportunity I couldn't pass up. The previous owner passed away a couple of years ago and the car hasn't been driven in at least three years. It looks like there may have been some repairs to the floors and battery box area already.

Anyway on to the pics.

Yeah, I live in Philly. The car is in North Jersey at my parent's place during the rebuild.

Just a small update. Spent the past couple of weekends tearing down the interior and exterior. Next up we tackle the engine and suspension.

Just another small update. We built a redneck rotisserie a couple of months ago. I have been working on sandblasting and repainting suspension parts for a couple of weeks.

Finally spent the past weekend stripping off the undercoating and paint. We made pretty good progress considering all of the horror stories I have read about stripping the undercoating. There has been quite a bit of work already done which doesn't look so great. You can see where they replaced the floor pans, frame rails, and battery box area. My biggest concern are the frame rails since you can tell one isn't square.

Anyway on to the pics.

You can see where the original frame rail was in this picture by the original welds. The new rail is about 1" off. It looks like they just aligned it with the front dogleg and just ran it out of square.

It doesn't appear to have very good welds, which is a good thing for you. You can probably grind those down, remove the rail on some supports (off of the rotisserie) and just get it square with the original spot. That won't change your suspension geometry any, as it's the middle rail placement. It's not that critical where it's off anyway, because it just stops there. At the very least, I'd drill some holes and get some plug welds in that rail, if not remove it and put it back where it should be.

I'm betting that it was rust repair. The rest of the unibody doesn't seem to be showing any collision damage from the images and everything up front looks nice and square where it's critical.
