June 2009 Z Car of the Month: Evan's 83 280 ZXT
Posted by: evan1242
Date: February 12, 2009 05:33PM

i had a previous thread up before, but the moderators deleted for some reason,
but anyways, im here to start a new one!

i have a 1983 280 ZXT and i am 18 years old, and still learning a lot about my Z!
this site has been a great help, and i would probably be lost without it.

1983 280 ZXT: (so far)
bought for $1,500
K&N cold air intake
running open exhaust just before the CAT
241,500 miles, and still going strong
interior needs a lot of work, but there is very little rust
drivers side fender is still waiting to be painted
suspension is going to be done in the middle of next week
new intake manifold, throttle body, and inter-cooler, and valve cover powder coating are in the process as we speak!

And there is plenty more to come!

(the day i bought it)

(the day i bought it)

(Clean Valve cover, 3 1/2 hours of sanding!)
cover 1.jpg

ZXT 1.JPG

a few updates that were close to the end of the last thread were about the suspension upgrades that are going to be done as soon as the parts arrive!

(they are all new Tokico shocks, and springs, and sway bars.)

there will be plenty of pictures along the way!

Well, weird that it got deleted, but anyways... VERY VERY NICE! I especially like the color. Reminds me of what my car should look like.

i emailed the moderators to see if they can restore it,
but they have not got back to me yet..

but thank you, i like the paint as well.
but the only down fall to it, is that the PO made up his own color in his garage, and everywhere i go, they say that they can not match it.

so it may end up that the whole car may have to be painted.

but i guess that is just a good excuse to get a new paint job lol :)

but if i do end up re-painting it, i want to go with black, or a similar color that it is now.

That looks almost identical to the dark gray Z31 color from 1984/5 like mine originally was. I've seen some stock 280ZX's in a very similar color too, so you can probably get a Nissan paint code for either of them and keep it looking very similar.

that would be great if i didnt have to get the whole car painted,
i went to a place today, and they said that they can get a close match, and then color blend it up across the hood, and down the door a little bit, but i dont know how well that would turn out?

It all depends on the shop and the tech who paints it. I've seen paint blended so well you would never be able to tell, but I've also seen very poor attempts. Your best bet for something like that is a small independently owned paint and body shop that has pictures of some of the cars they've done in the office. That lets you know they do good work and they are proud of it.

Did you hit something on the drivers side front? In the picture it looks like the bumper is pushed down. Maybe you could take the front bumper off and give it a couple good upward whacks with a sledge hammer on the left absorber mount...Just a thought.

P.S. I used to work in a body shop, tend to notice little things like that.

actually, i i was driving down a 4 lane road, and i guy in a small s10 truck sideswiped me, and dented the drivers side fender pretty good,
but it is replaced now, and it just needs to be painted.

but, yes, i will try to get it to sit up a little higher!
thanks, and good eye!!

Nice z man looks beautiful. My dad use to own the same one. It looks like the color of your car is the same as mine. My car was painted Phantom Grey with silver flacks in the paint. Here's a pic of my car with the paint job on it. Good luck withe the car and all

i will get to the front today if i find the time.

i can defiantly tell that it is an inch lower!
it made much more of a difference in ride height than i thought it would!
