280zx weight loss
Posted by: MattRetz

I just removed all my ac stuff from the engine/engine bay cause it doesn't work. If anyone was curious about the weight savings, the following was removed:
-compressor
-belt
-all lines
-engine bracket/tentioner
-hardware
For a grand total of 27 pounds, just over 1 percent in weight loss, very little but it is what it is.

Did you remove the condensor from in front of the radiator, too?

Technical definitions of gain don't translate well to the track.

Likely, doing a basic tune-up would have netted you the 2-3HP that would translate into similar performance gains. Likely, given the condition of most cars here, quite a bit more, actually.

The south beach diet would have netted more loss than 27 lbs. and you could still keep cool with the ac.

Mine has lost more than that just by rusting out!

While I was installing my bushings, I also removed the AC. Living in South Florida, it was probably crazy but the AC didnt work and hadnt worked in at least 10 years. I removed the compressor, belt, idler pully, condenser, vacuum chamber, and lots of brass piping. It cleaned up my engine bay and weighed 50 pounds (I wieghed the parts on a scale).

FYI, 1 pound of steels makes 7 pounds of rust.

so a rusted car gets heavier, unless it falls off.
