hey ppl

i own a '82 280zx turbo and it is in need of having the tranny fluid changed. unfortunately for the manual trans, they recommend GL-4. but i have checked all the stores in my area and cannot find it anywhere. is GL-5 the replacement for GL-4, and can i use that? or is there something else that i can use?

Do a search using transmission fluid as the keywords. It's been covered a lot an there are a few options ranging from OK to great depending on how much you want to spend on the fluids.
Don't forget to expand the search timeline from 30 days to 6 months or a year.

80W90 I dont know why they wanted automatic transmission fluid in the T5 but they did. If you want to stick withthe red stuff you can use GL5 with no problems.

I ran mine with whatever came in it and it was good. Then I put Redline MT90 in and it so much better. Quick and smooth shifts.

My buddy with a 5-speed Jetta is going to replace his oil with Redline because he was so impressed.

Just beware that Redline isn't carried in some places. I had to order mine through Summit Racing because no store near me carried it.

I have used Redline MTL during my transmission saga. It even quieted down a noisy transmission unitl I could remove it for inspection. Just my 2 cents.

GL 5 lubes are not backwards compatible with GL4 applications. You must use GL4 rated lube.Redline or Amsoil makes superior GL4 specific products.
