'77 Z hard to start - re-post

My Z turns over fine, but does not start, at least until the engine has warmed up a bit from trying to start. Once started, it runs fine. I pulled the thermotime and cold start valve from a good starting Z and still the problem exists. Also, I put the suspect parts on the other Z and it starts right up.

I tried some other things, I tried the temp sensor; not the problem, I pulled a good working Control Unit from another Z and that did not solve anything. I did notice that when I turn the key to "ON" I do not hear the fuel pump. I jacked up the car and checked for voltage to the pump while the switch was on, the best I could get from the terminals was about .07 to .12 volts from terminal to ground. Nothing from terminal to terminal. However it starts working after the afore mentioned 10 min of incremental cranking. Very odd. I am about out of ideas.

Your input will be appreciated.

Check valve, if I had to guess without that fuel psi BEFORE STARTING measurement. CLUE, it's not the warmed-up starter motor "making it happen." Norm K.

A fuel pressure gauge would indicate fuel pressure. A study of the FSM outlines fuel pump circuit as do multiple posts in the archives by Wayne Monteath. A diagnostic trip through the FSM troubleshooting section with confirmation that your timing marks haven't rotated on the pulley would get it up to specs or at least give you some relevant data to post. Blue has a beautiful colored wiring diagram.
