Transmission woes

Hello,

I've got two questions about the 4spd trans in my '71:

1- Its leaking at the back where the driveshaft goes in. I assume a seal has gone bad...Is that difficult to fix?

2- When I turn the driveshaft by hand, I hear a "clicking" noise that sounds like its coming from the end of the tranny. Is there a barring at the end that could have gone bad? Can that be fixed easily or do I need to do a complete teardown?

Thanks

The seal is an easy fix, pry out the old tap in the new. Tapping in the new straight is a little time consuming but not hard. The click you are hearing is probably a bad u-joint on the front of the driveshaft. Not sure if 240's were not intended to be replaced like my 280, but it is savable.

Yeah you can change the U-joints in the 240 driveshafts.
