71 240Z Half Shaft parts breakdown???
Posted by: jmartin
Date: August 18, 08:11PM

Anyone have a good parts breakdown of a 71 240Z half shaft? It is an auto trans car so I believe it has the S180 differential. I just took on a project for a friend and the half shafts are all in pieces!! I do not know how they go back together!

Thanks!

Jeff

You could also check out BlackDragon auto online. They use a lot of parts blow-ups to demonstrate what they sell as well.

This picture might help you out some...or at least show you the general layout of the half-shafts...

Thanks for the photo that will help a lot.

I still have one problem. In the photo it shows 3 ball bearings and two plastic/nylon spacers in between the bearings for each flute. There are four flutes so I would need 12 ball bearings and 8 plastic/nylon spacers per axle shaft. I have two bags of bearings and spacers, one for each axle and each bag has 12 bearings and 12 spacers! What side do I put the extra spacer on? Or do I leave it out?

I am confused!!!!!

Thanks!

Jeff

did you look at the purplesage trading post link?

at all?

Sumpter details the disassembly, modification, and reassembly of the axle assemblies in his Streamliner Buildup Page. He titled every page in the index, it's NOT that hard to find.

If you had looked at his webpage, this question would not be in your head right now.
