Optima D34 Yellow Top - fitment question

Anyone install one of these in a 72 240Z? Looks like it is narrower and taller than stock. If you have, any fabrication suggestions, fitment tips appreciated, thanks.

Buy one of these and bolt it to your old battery tray.

I installed a Optima Redtop in a 71 240.I ended up purchasing the battery tray from the link below. It's a bit pricey but it's a beautiful piece and is a very secure mount for the Optima.

If you purchase the redtop SC34A it comes with an adaptor automatically and they fit the stock battery frames.

My redtop came with an adapter as stated above. Installed with no problems.

Do optimas have holes down the center like the NAPA orbitals? I just ran the battery tie down bolts down the middle. They hook to the factory tray and there is no frame on top of the battery, just wing nuts.

I just took a piece of 2" wide 1/16" flat bar, bent it to attach to the firewall bolt, press down on the top of the battery and use the stock "hold down" rod on the outside.

Sorta like this:

Not as nice as the properly fit "frame" style hold down, but works great none the less and passes tech at SCCA events.

I made a bracket. Here are the plans, and photos.

I did make a few changes after I did the CAD work. Rather than drill a hole for the J hook, I welded a tube onto the end. It worked a bit better. I attached the loop side of velcro to the bottom of the angle brackets as insulators to the battery.

Picked one up last night, fit right in no problem.

I'll take pictures tonight to share, and maybe I am missing something, but I just sat the battery on top of the height adaptor that came with it, put my original top holdown bracket over it (fit perfectly), bolted the bracket to the firewall and snugged down the bracket rod to the undertray and its snug.

Will give it the old motion test tonight.

btw, awesome replies everyone, thank you. Great custom fab work and those off the shelf solutions from ebay vendors look sweet too.
