74 260z ignition bug- *searched but cant find info* ¿¿bad ignition module??
ive been scouring the this forum and hybridz and i cant find anything related to my problem.
ok i picked this car up almost a week ago. the coil wires where disconnected & there is a light blue "Ll" wire that comes out right before the wires that go to the coil thats not plugged in to anything.
when i connect the ground wire i can hear multiple relays come on. when i turn the engine over with the coil wire off of the dizzy it sparks but its not a rhythmic, or pulsing spark, its timing is random. when you stop turning the engine over you can hear the coil clicking (discharging) every 3-5 seconds, even if you hold the secondary coil wire away from any ground. with the kay on and holding the coil wire next to a ground the arch will jump about 7 or 8mm. if the rotation of the engine is just right it fires the mixture in one of the cylinders. when you turn the engine over with the coil wire connected to the dizzy it pops and farts like its acting like its trying to start but its just the coil sparking randomly
i was wondering if there is any way to test the ignition module?
bahh this almost makes me want points
yes i do have a FSM both the book and one on my computer. i printed a wire diagram that takes up 8 pages ( HUUUGE ) there is a black wire with a white line that goes to the NEG. side of the coil, and a blue wire that goes to the POS. side, this other blue wire comes out of the same wire bundle and has a female connector on the end. i need new battery's for my multimeter so i can test to make sure the coil is getting constant power. but im sure that its pulsing if not, the coil couldnt discharge.
are you using that litte capacitor like thing that goes between the coil and the wire harness?
If I have any time tonight, I'll dig through my FSM and see if I can help any. I spent weeks last summer trying to figure out the wiring in my POS 260Z. If you had posted this back then, I'd have known exactly which wires go where and what they should read. It's all a bit fuzzy six months later.
i believe that the blue wire that i was talking about goes to the AC compressor clutch.
and that capacitor thing isnt plugged in to anything. all of the wire diagrams i have found doesnt show where it goes
this is really getting annoying. im not finding any information relating to my problem. does anybody have any ideas as to what could be the issue?
im totally at a loss right now, if there is any test that i can do to possibly rule out components im all ears
The issue is that your car doesn't work so good or you would be driving it right now. 1974 doesn't ring "the module" bell for me. Norm K.
haha thanks Norm. i lost my keys the other day, you would have never guessed it.. i found them in the last spot i looked
I do not know if this is your problem, but your dizzy maybe 180 degrees out. If your motor was rebuild and the dizzy/oil pump was not installed correctly it could be 180 degrees out. It is easy to install them wrong. This would give the appearance of random order firing from the coil. If its 180 out just put your plug wires on the dizzy in a mirror order.

The blue wire is your main hot to the coil or resistor block. Have you looked at the FSM it shows the wires in detail?
I'm not near as familiar with the 74's though.
