280zx sensor light on
on my 1982 280zx turbo i have the sensor light is on , what should i do , i never had it befor ,
the light is activated by mileage and is an indicator to the service tech that your O2 sensor needs to be checked. It most likely still works fine, but check on the computer in the car to see if a little green light is flashing on it. If so when the car is running then the sensor is still good.
To get the light to go out, you unplug it. Green wire with yellow stripe under the knee-high trim panel on the passenger side with the light in it under the dash. Remove the 2 screws holding the panel in, lower it and look for a single green wire with a yellow stripe somewhere around the metal cross-bar. It's got a bullet connector on it. Unplug it and that's it. They just unplug the light.
Your Z has low miles, doesn't it?
Either low mileage or you hooked up a couple of loose wires.

lol. have to agree with you on this one!
ithink so because recently i took out the dash to get it redone maybe i plug that wire . ill check it tonight , thanks
it has 160k
The sensor light has nothing to do with the O2 sensor, other than to tell the new owner to take it to Nissan in 1982 for inspection. It cannot be reset. But if you remove the passenger knee panel you will find the yellow green stripe wire Easy was speaking of. You connected it when you put the dash in. Just unplug it. You can use it later as a warning light of your choosing for fog lights, oil slick, ejection seat, missiles, etc.
Since we already have one "sticky", perhaps this should become another. This sensor problem does crop up with great regularity!
Mo, you really a dealer?

Do a search. There is a plug under the passenger side of the dash that needs to be unplugged to turn the light off...
