When the car is running in neutral or when it is off this is happening.
Press down the clutch pedal its not a clicking sound but a wooshing sound I guess. Kind of like when your feet are wet and you pull off your sneakers and it makes that "sound"??? At first I thought it was the floor mat getting stuck on the bottom of the pedal. So it is near the bottom when pressed and same spot coming back up.

Just got home and it doesn't happen when driving the car and shifts feel normal.

Throwout Bearing?....but it still does it when parked.

Thanks

Re: Clutch

Back home from work and now there isn't any noise at all.
That is usually what the dealer says when you bring the car in for service right?
Sorry guys, I guess I will wait until I know what the F is going on with the car if there is anything wrong at all.

Re: Clutch

It does sound like a throwout bearing noise as you suspected. If it starts happening often, see if you can feel a slight vibration in you clutch pedal as it does it.

If it is the throwout bearing, it can stay quiet for a very long time after it starts going bad, or it can deteriorate into a very loud and embarrassing squeal very quickly... it just depends. Either way, don't worry about it until it starts happening more frequently.

Thanks phxZ31...

I know things wear out but come on. I only have 25,400 miles on this car and I don't drive it daily.

In my early 20's I had a Cavalier with 80,000 before the clutch let go.
I had a 1998 Jeep Wrangler with 75,000 and no problems with the clutch.
Also, had a 2002 Mustang GT with 60,000 and it was almost going.
(I really beat on that car though..lol)

It is starting to look like NNA took a page from GMs book with the quality of craftsmanship and the frequent break down of parts and the cost of ownership.
So tell me why in 2004 this car went for 38 grand out the door?

IDK.

Re: Clutch

Its possible that it could be something else. Since you've only experienced it once so far I wouldn't worry about it. I was just giving you some things to be aware of to aid you in determining exactly what the problem actually is.

25k miles is not a lot... clutches and bearings should easily last 5 times that long... However, one thing that does cause throwout bearings to fail prematurely is parking at a stoplight with your foot on the clutch and your transmission in gear. Its much better on the throwout bearing if you place the car in neutral and remove your foot from the clutch while the car is not moving.

Like I said, just drive normally and dont worry about it until it starts happening more often. Probably too hard to make an accurate diagnosis until the problem starts to present itself more often.

Re: Clutch

Ditto...like you said about leaving the clutch engaged at a light.
I never do that, and that is probably why my other clutches lasted so long.
Also, since I bought the car used I really do not know how the previous driver handled the clutch. That is just one of the gambles with previously used equipment.

Yeah.. that is a gamble with used equipment...

I managed to destroy a brand new performance throwout bearing within 5k miles once... but I was totally abusing the clutch and transmission at every possible juncture.
