WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

Looking for the front cover to fit the 56mm counter shaft bearing. Must be like new with no corrosion or pitting and the shaft for the throw-out bearing not scared or worn.

Here's the part number and cars it was used on - https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/part...111-e9013.html

The early 4 and 5 speeds will fit also. The 1978 280Z used the same transmission as the 1979 280ZX. The 4 speed cover is steel instead of aluminum but will fit also. If you get in a bind and can't find one.

And here's a later replacement part number that might help locate one - http://www.courtesyparts.com/oe-nissan/32111e9800

pdx280, thanks for your replies and links.
I have tried those part numbers from partsdeal and they came back discontinued unavailable. So I may have to find a used one.

The earlier covers didn't have the oil passages between the main, counter bearings and the shift rod area. The '83 cover I have (pitted and scared throw-out bearing tube) has those oil passages.

I have heard that you can use the later cover (84 and up) for the 62mm counter bearing and shims. But will the 62mm shims cover the outer race of the earlier 56mm bearing?

That's a good question and interesting possibility. I'm sure that you could make a shim or have one made though. It should work. You could get a 62 mm front cover, brand new, and use a custom shim if the 62 mm shim isn't wide enough. I know the front cover bolt patterns are the same, since the 54mm front cover is used if you swap bearings, 54 for 62, when you do the "71C" 240SX transmission conversion.

I'd find a shim, or make one, or have one made, before buying the cover. If you get the outer diameter right it should locate and do its job just fine. It's just preload on that outer race. Which you probably know already. Just agreeing it's worth a look.
