Check engine light

Hi Everyone, I'm probably the newest 350Z owner. I just bought a 2006 Lemans Sunset. I love this **** car!! But, I have a question... The check engine light is on. I had a friend check the codes and reset them. But the light came on about 20 miles later. Here are the codes: 172B and 175B. The computer also said: Bank 1 & 2 system rich. I do have an after market Nismo CAI. Would that be the problem? If so, how can I keep the check engine light to stay off?

If its not the CAI. How can I fix this problem without going to the dealer? Also, I'm not a mechanic, but I'm mechanical. Would I be able to fix this myself?

My car throws a check engine light occassionally. Mine is due to a misfire at idle when the car sits and idles for more than a couple of minutes. Mine is caused by my Nismo cams which causes the car to idle between six and nine hundred rpm. I guess I need to get the ECU reflased again.

I wouldn't think a CAI by itself would be enough to cause the check engine light to come on, but it could I guess. Do you have any other mods? You may want a Nissan dealer to check it out to make sure all is well. It could be caused by something else or your computer may need to be flashed.

Generally three engine cycles without a code will reset the check engine light by itself. However, if you reset it and it came on again I would have it checked out.

Correction: The codes are: P0172 and P0175.

Thanks for the input ZPirate. I'll probably end up having it check at the dealers. Just hoping it could be something I can fix. (no warranty)

P0172 OBD-II Trouble Code
Technical DescriptionSystem Too Rich (Bank 1)

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a rich condition (too little oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0175, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

Ok, after doing more research, I have found that it might be oil from the CAI filter getting on the MAF sensor.

Can anyone tell me where the MAF sensor is located? Someone suggested trying to clean it with contact cleaner.

there's a cord that connects to the intake pipe. the MAF is right there.

however, if you read the code description it says there's too little oxygen in the exhaust, which is at the opposite end.

My guess is your Mass airflow sensors is screwed up from your CAI.
Oh and Lemanz Sunset is the only good color for the Z besides Ultra Black.
