Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ

Coming soon! The REAL new 240Z (er, 240SX, anyway), and there's two of 'em!
It's been a LONG time since there was a lightweight rwd 2+2 in the US market. Been looking forward to this (these) car(s) for a while now.

Weight is supposed to be just under 2700 lb. base, just over 2700 lb. loaded. Which is going to be critical, as it's powered by a 200hp 2.0 liter flat four. Still, better power/weight than any non-turbo Z before the 350Z For me, 2700 lb. is more important than having big power, but rumor has it there'll be a supercharged version of the FR-S and maybe a turbo BRZ. Keeping fingers crossed...

But worst case, this is the modern incarnation of the S13 240SX (one of my favorite cars), with ZERO weight gain and 45 more hp. And WAY better-looking. SWEET!

Scion FR-S

Funny, here's what Road & Track say:

The Subaru and Scion are basically the same design, and hint at a sort of 7/8th-scale modern rendition of the original Datsun 240Z...and we mean that as a compliment.
7/8 scale 240z? REALLY?! More like an 8/7 scale 240Z. And how could that be anything OTHER than a compliment!

Writers at car mags seem to know less and less about cars every year...

Have you been reading the threads lately?

They are only catering to those that frequent sites like this.
They believe anything...

Re: Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ

Of course, they try to cater to car enthusiasts, 95% of whom know next to nothing about cars. One would hope that enthusiast publications *would* have something of a clue! But this is less and less true as they devolve into industry cheerleading rags...

Ah well, at least they're aware of the 240Z's existence, if not of it's size and shape. The FR-S/BRZ are definitely a LOT more like the S13 240SX and 80's rwd Celica in terms of size and proportions than the 240Z, which has a much longer hood, engine set way further back, and 2 seats mounting just forward of the rear wheels. The rear FR-S/BRZ 1/4-windows are definitely S30esque, though.

NOT better looking than a S13! The side profile and the lights look like a 240Z because Toyota wanted to incorporate 2000GT body lines

I'm a huge S13 fan, I owned a '91 for a while. LOVED that car! IMO its basic shape/proportions were fine, but it was a bit slab-sided and boring-looking, too little in the way of complex curvature, and had a sound-asleep and emotionless face. This car is, to me, more attractive. Subtle coke-bottle waistline, nice compound curvature in the front fenders carrying into the hood, and wide-awake-ready-to-play "face". Purely subjective, of course...

More than anything else, this car is the second coming of the 240SX. Here's hoping enough people appreciate it this time!

NO DAN BALDWIN! The 240SX has 90's FRESH styling that you will never see again.... A slammed stock 240SX is second next to a well done S30....purely subjective, of course...
Heh i think its cool how the SX was looked over back then and now all of a sudden its the it car...+10

This new 86 looks really good though....its gonna have some competition as the Genesis Coupe is getting a 30hp bump.....but I think this car looks way better.

Re: Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ

Still not a fan of current styles - squared off front and back clips - too short in the hood and "Baby Got Back" bloated rear deck.

But this car does look good inspite of the above.
