96 nissan sentra driveshaft question, nissan techs?

Just curious if anyone has done the left halfshaft on the 96 automatic without pulling the right one first. It says in the manual you have to do this, not sure about the haynes manual for accuracy. It seems If you were to pull both shafts you would need to do this to keep the carrier in position. Any suggestions?
Thanks Pete...

Re: 96 nissan sentra driveshaft question, nissan techs?

I had a '96 200sx auto, almost identical to the sentra. I replaced my left halfshaft only once, and didn't have any problems. I've also replaced both at the same time, with no problems. Not sure if this was just dumb luck or not.

I had the SR20 in mine, if you have the GA16, it may be different.

On the '97 Sentra my brother used to drive, we pulled the right one and replaced it completely, then pulled the left one out and replaced it. At no time was both shafts out at once.

Furthermore, when pulling the 'new' ones in the junkyard, each shaft came out of a different car.

That which does not kill me makes me stranger.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin', We gonna do what they say can't be done. We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there, I'm east bound just watch ole Bandit run!

Re: 96 nissan sentra driveshaft question, nissan techs?

I called the nissan dealer and they said it was ok to pull, shouldn't be a problem. Be aware there are some cars that will drop the diff inside if you pull out both shafts together. In that case the tranny will need to be torn down to be put back in place. Thanks for the replys...
