Z in winter mode

Swapped the winter wheels/tires (OEM wheels/Blizzak WS50) on the Z last night. 100lbs of sand/cement in the truck. Alpine Premiere chains ready to go. Tow strap, shovel, and bag of easy access sand. Winter here I come. Drove to work today, let the wife drive the Frontier while her car is at the body shop.

Today is the 2nd day this week that I have drove the Z. First time since the middle of December since the snow started to fall and has not stopped. To my credit, I only drive the Z when the roads are snow free.

January was a doozy of a month snowfall wise. Broke the all time single month record for Tahoe. In total 23 feet of snow has fell this winter. This is recorded at the local ski resort at the 6200' base area. My house is right at 6200' as well, though I get less snow where I am due to the notch where the resort is located.

So the snow started to fall and the Z was all tucked in the corner of my front yard.

I did not get a picture of full burial, but it was above the top of the fence about 2' out in a nice semi square cube. Here I am beginning to dig it out. I chipped at it for many days. Only work on it when it was above freezing. At this point I could open the door and retrieve some of my personal items. This was mid January some time.

On one particularly warm day I made a lot of progress

Then this last week it had rained for about 4 days, everything was nice and soft (if very water logged). Then this last Saturday, after a digging session, I hopped in. She fired on the first crank and I drove away. Notice the perfect impression left in the snowbank.

The only damage was the mirror on the passenger side pulled free from its 3 screws and was dangling. She sat over night, and the next day, in my semi heated garage and dried out. Monday I drove to work. Valves ticked for a little bit but are now quite. She is running better than ever.

As a skier I live for snow. Whole reason I live where I live.

This winter has been a bit much though. All kinds of too much snow /rain issues. The rain is terrible. If you don't believe in climate change you sure don't live in the mountains. FLooding, mudslides, dams failing, trees falling alot of people dying.

Today is the last day for the Z tomorrow we are back into a storm pattern. And it looks like it will be rain again.

Here in NJ it's been a very mild season. A cold day or two then back up to 50 or so. Just a little snow too. A number of days for good Z driving - no salt on the roads.

I prefer driving with the T-tops off, not yet mild enough for that. Having the tops off also hides the somewhat noisy Z cabin.
