How much does head gasket fix cost?

Just curious, wanted to know what a head gasket replacement or fix on a 300ZX should cost?

Depends on if your doing it yourself or not...

Re: How much does head gasket fix cost?

No I am not doing it myself, a mechanic gave me a quote of 675 bucks, so just wanted to know if that is a reasonable price.

Re: How much does head gasket fix cost?

That would seem to be a good price (if for the whole job?). There's a fair amount of time involved in pulling everything apart -- $675 would seem a little low tho....

Re: How much does head gasket fix cost?

that is crazy low. think about book time on that job has to be like 10 hrs. most shops charge 80 bucks a hour. So do the math 10 times 80 = 800. With out the parts.

and if its a TT the motor has to come out pretty much. That would be the "easy" way to do it

Look at your SOS post below. Something is really wrong with this deal.

Re: How much does head gasket fix cost?

IF the shop went with trying to pull the heads off with the motor in the car...they will be there for a LONG TIME. The labor would be well over $1K.

I know most shops..Z1 for example..charge upwards of $800 to pull the engine OUT of the car. Then add the cost for disassembly/reassembly and parts.

If I were you, I would go ahead and "bite the bullet" and do either a 60K or a 120K. Most shops who know what they are getting into will charge around $1K out the door for this service.

I would say a shop who KNOWS what it takes to do a head gasket service will charge around $1200 at least. ANd by the way...i didnt even consider in my totals items that can and will break, things that will need to be replaced, or the possible fact that your car might be a Twin Turbo.

Screw leaving them in the garage...DRIVE THEM EVERYDAY!
