Fitting a RB20DET into 73 240Z

What kinda modifications would be needed to fit a RB20DET into a 73 240Z. What kinda mounts, would it be possible to use the same oil pan or would it fit with the stock RB20 oil pan etc. THANKS!!!

Re: Fitting a RB20DET into 73 240Z

http://hybridz.org has all the info

but if you are going to put in the money, go for an RB26DETT... think about it... has TwinTurbo and has .6 more displacement...

why would you go from an 2.4L engine to an 2.0L? if you go 2.0L go for an SR20DE which is much cheaper....

but I can tell you lots of work and lots of money, custom fabircated motor mounts ans braces, new wiring, new instrument cluster and proper speedo and tach readings, new axels, new driveshaft, probably new steering column, lots and ltos of re-wiring, proper engine displacement otherwise your driving and balance will be out of whack... new fuel pump, lots and lots of stuff.

I say about $12,000+ range... knowing that an VG30ET is almost that much to put in... which is a **** of alot better since all the parts can be found in America CHEAP... rather than importing expensive Japanese parts from Japan.

The RB20DET is the cheaper than a SR20DET and easier to put in. From what I've read all you need to put one into a Z is 200ZR motor mounts(others may work), a rear sump oil pan and some kind of tranny mount(probably had to be fabbed). But thats just getting it into the car, wiring it up ect. is a whole other ball game...

Re: Fitting a RB20DET into 73 240Z

People always suggest to put in the RB26DETT, but I think they are forgetting that these engines only came in the GTR and are VERY expensive! The rb20det and rb25det are much cheaper. Too bad we don't live in Aus, cause then we could get rb25et for dirt cheap.

Re: Fitting a RB20DET into 73 240Z

I'm thinking of do something like that to my 72. I've been over to Hybridz and there are infomation but they are usually not complete. What I mean is there is a ton of information of people posting that I did this and that and it can be done but that is all. I know it can be done and has been but why can't I find information like the Chevy conversion, complete information. In my opion, if someone went through all the work installing in a sr20det or whatever conversion they are doing, they should have kept a log of all the information. Who knows, maybe its like I did it and it took a lot from me so I'm not going to share it, kind of a thing.

Re: Fitting a RB20DET into 73 240Z

this swap will run you about $8500 if you do everything yourself and depending on front clip or motorset price. i've done this swap already. you need a custom drive shaft, custom motor mounts, custom wiring, intercooler, boost management, standalone ecm, and turbo plumbing, bigger radiator, and custom oil pan. sano
