0-60 times for a 280ZX

What kind of times would you expect for a stock 280ZX? What kind of times would you expect for a turbo?

Re: 0-60 times for a 280ZX

you must have read a 0-50mph time. well tuned stockers are around high 8 to low 9 second 0-60 cars.

stock turbos were around 7-8 seconds.

Re: 0-60 times for a 280ZX

I just read one that stated 11.5 seconds with a 5 speed.

jeez, there is another that said the first turbo had a 10.9 0-60....

another one that says the turbo has a 6.9... these testers in this collection of reviews book I have are some bad driving mo fo's.

Re: 0-60 times for a 280ZX

Most data on the 70's and 80's Z's are bad. Zhome.com has a bunch of specs from mags back in the day when these cars were new but the drivers must have sucked or the testing conditions did. Most of them say on average the 70-83 Z non turbo will do 0-60 in 9 seconds and 1/4 mile in 17-18 seconds. Thats crap. And like szlash said there are some 10 and 11 second runs for the 0-60. From what I've seen and heard from others the non turbo 70-83 will range in the low 8's to the mid 9's for 0-60. For the 1/4 mile they should run low to high 16's. Of course there are exceptions and other factors to account especially since most of our cars aren't new anymore.

Re: 0-60 times for a 280ZX

the previous owner of my car went to the track & ran 16.7@89mph, it's pure stock except for the custom intake filter.

Re: 0-60 times for a 280ZX

I have a 77 280Z 4 speed with headers, exhaust and intake and ive done 0-60 in about 9 flat launching at 3000rpm and shifting at 5500rpm....haha. I would think that a 280z driven properly should run in the low 8's for 0-60.

Re: 0-60 times for a 280ZX

I don't know what's up those times but I can do 0-60 in my '80ZX gl coupe right around 8 flat. And I'm not the best racer. Only thing I did to it was put KN filter on it. I need to retest now since I put a cat back system on. And I plan to put an electric fan on there in a week or so.

Re: 0-60 times for a 280ZX

fuel pressure in my 78 is my problem. it doesn't hold high pressures so my power goes to chit at high revs. I timed myself with a stop watch in my shifting had, I don't remember exactly but it was high 8's to low 9's.

my 02 corolla would do much better with a better computer. it pulls really well at first but the auto tranny shifts too soon and it kills itself with the economy ignition. oh well, I like the 36MPG I am finally gettin' in it. you have to warm it up a little bit before trying to take off fast too, if the engine is reletively cold it will shift the tranny at 4000rpm max! ugh! can you say dangerous?
