Cowl Panel Upper

Hi guys, I am currently restoring a 81' 280z. I removed the windshield and where the cowl panel meets the windshield is all rusted away and I've concluded that the best way and most efficient way to fix this is to replace it. Does anybody know where to get one or have a better solution on how to fix this? I'm not sure how to post pictures without using the URL so if pictures will help think of another solution I have them and can post them if someone tells me how Thank you for the help in advance, any advice is greatly appreciated!

If it is all rusted away there I would take a good poke around the rest of the car to make sure you don't find any other significantly rusted areas. Depending on your ability, it is either going to be very time consuming or expensive to fix. I have a 81 280ZX that I will be parting out. PM me if you need anything.

I am currently in the same boat, as many others. Obviously new ones don't exist and used may not be in any better shape. Early on I had the windshield pulled and used rust preventative paint to buy me some time until I could get my garage set up at our new house.

Fast forward to my new garage. After carefully cutting from the car this was the extent of mine:

I cut the pinch weld right off the cowl in one piece. Then, I cut it into two strips which I laid flat on a sheet of 20g steel, traced with a sharpie and cut out with a pneumatic shear.

Then tacked together only enough to clamp into place on the car and tack several more areas.

Same with the roof. Once clamped in place tack in several more areas but not welded to car yet.

Then welded solid from underneath. The windshield ss trim molding clamp strips are still avaialble from Nissan. Upper (72825-p7100) and lower (72826-p7100).

If anyone out there wants to restore rust I have a 83 rust free in garage
I would sell as a shell or maybe a roller for less then a grand.
Needs rad support and fender and front end that I have for the deal.
No title bought from body shop after sitting since 1986
22 k miles only, did I say NO RUST. I want my space back in garage.
I think I would cut the cowl out for 450 for OP.

Hay HOGMAN I have rust free slick top available for part for upper
or whole top can be used you could have slick top.

BGM evertime I see a slicktop I think now that's the way to go but then I 'member all the swell times in the Ttops. Too much blood, sweat, and tears invested already. Wished I had that rust free 83 roller you got 5 years ago.

Very nice. Are you TIG welding?

Love the collection of nametags on the wall.
