Hello guys, I have a bit of an issue regarding black stuff coming out of exhaust, it leaves a black mark on the pavement almost like droplets. It only basicly happens when I start up my car and rev it a bit then it goes away. I'm thinking it may be some oil mixing with water but I'm no expert. What do you guys think?
when you start up the exhaust is fairly cold. byproducts of combustion are co, co2 and h2o. the h2o condenses on the cold metal. this dissolves part of the carbon deposits in the exhaust system and exhaust gas blows it out onto the pavement. if you are getting below 18-20 mpg you are probably running rich producing lots of unburnt carbon particles in your exhaust. 83280zx trying to be amusing disregard except for the part about the fsm at xenon. pretty much nothing to worry about. most cars do it to some extent. if low mileage try a tune up. if still running rich might be the chts is bad.
Thanks guys, I still have to work out how much petrol per kilometers my car uses, but in my opinion the old ZX ain't that heavy on petrol. Glad to hear it's not a bad issue, thought it were signs that she is going to die on me
