Accessory relay? electrical problem.. please help!

hey everyone.. new here.

I have a 1981 280zx.. i have run into a problem where the windshield wipers, heating, back up lights, and radio arent working.. everything else works fine.. all the fuses are fine.. im assuming that it is the accessory relay but i have no idea where it is.. and the relay box in the engine compartment doesnt say which is which.. i also found 3 relays behind the glove box and i have no idea what those are for either..

Can anyone help me?

if you dont think its the accessory relay what else should i check?

thanks alot in advance!

Check/test fusible links. They get old and tend to become toast over the years.

If a hammer won't fix it, it must be an electrical problem.

accessory relay

Download the FSM here http://www.xenons130.com/reference.html

Go to page EL-110... It's under the pass side kick panel... WAY above the fuse panel
Diagram in book is better.....

Is the fusible links the ones right by the battery? just looks like a bunch of wires? i dont see how that is a replaceable part?

MArio... I'll get back to you in a moment.... on the relay test... the fusible links will look like normal wire... ( but very flexable )

If they POP it will look BBQed and will feel brittle... poke at them... they are replaceable ( did you check ALL the fuses in the kick panel with a test light or voltmeter?

They dont look fried at all.. when i unplug the black one though the engine seems to run smoother.. its really weird.. when i plug it back in the engine bogs down a bit.

I did check all the fuses with a meter they all have continuity and i visually inspected them.. both ways they look good.

There are three relays behind the glove box 2 yellow and one green they seem to have a tiny bit of corrosion on em but i have no idea how to test them and they are in a very tight spot.

MIke I REALLY appreciate you giving me the info you have

Re: Accessory relay? electrical problem.. please help!

4 wire connector on accessory relay

White /Black Swinger on relay, feeds power to the ACC fuseblock Should be hot in ACC-IGN-START****

White Normally open switch relay contact from battery/fusible link Should be hot all the time

Black/ Red Coil + Relay pulls in in ACC-IGN & START... relay should go CLICK when going from off to ACC

Black Coil ground ties to chassis

Should power up the 3 fuses in the fuse box for ACC
