1981 280zx Turbo 2-tones

Hey 2-tone guys.....over the past couple years I've been collecting information on the '81 280zx Turbo 2-tones.

It seems, based on the brochures I've seen, that the Blue and Silver 2-tones were only offered in the US.

In the Canadian Brochure, it shows Black/Silver, Red/Silver, Bronze, Black or Gray for the 1981 Turbo. The European brochure does not shown Blue/Silver either or a Turbo model for 81.

I know 2 Black and Silvers made it to the US though, based on production #'s and Carfax, I guess they were special order. Only 1 was ordered in Canada, mine.

Does anybody have a Brochure for the US 1981 Turbo??????.....Does one exist? it must. It was a 1/2 year model, so finding the Canadian one was a major pain (it's a supplimental Brochure), especially since not many 81 turbos even went to Canada.

I can send a scan of the Canadian Brochure to anybody interested.

Re: 1981 280zx Turbo 2-tones

check my car domain site. my car is a 1981 n/a 2 tone (black and silver) 885t I believe is the code on the aluminum plate under the hood. Not a turbo but i think pretty rare in the same right. The paint is original.

I would love a copy of that brochure. I have one from 1981 it shows a blue and silver one but no black and silver. I use it at car shows and cruise nights for all of the meatheads that before I got the emblems replaced thought my car was a friggin Ferrari.

I'm the guy when it comes to 81 two tone turbos.

When it comes to two tone talk, you knew I would write in. I have every year Z brochures and there was a Turbo brochure printed in 2-81. I am looking at it right now. There were three brochures for 81. The first was printed in the fall of 80. I can't find that one right now, so I can't say the month for sure. They all show the drivers headlight on with the rain coming down. It's a black non Turbo headlight bucket. In side it shows a bronze t top coupe, then a base coupe in that dark gray, which by the way was only offered on the base ZX. Then there is a t top blue and silver 2+2, then a shot of that 2+2's interior and the last two pages show the features and options. The second brochure is the exact same thing except this one shows a black turbo on the first 4 pages with the gold trim as all black 81 turbos came with the gold trim. The last brochure is just for the turbo and it shows the same black car and nothing extra was added in that brochure. The 81 colors were.... Black, white, silver, bronze, blue, red, brown and that dark gray. The two tones were, blue and silver, red and silver, that dark gray and silver, "Bet nobody knew that one" and black and silver. As far as I know, Frank is correct about the 3 black and silver 81 turbos, however, I have seen black and silver non turbos but not in the US. By the way, the blue and silver for 79 was a darker blue. The brighter blue was offered from 80 on.... We can discuss the colors for 82 and 83 some other time. I wrote enough for now.

Re: 1981 280zx Turbo 2-tones

Z-Dub,

Yours is blue over silver which is the inverse of the 79-81 two tones. I like both versions. I'd be hardpressed to decide one over the other. My 81 280zxt is the second one.

Like this (82-83)?

Versus like this (79-81)

Re: 1981 280zx Turbo 2-tones

The Canadian Brochure is a supplemental Brochure and is only for the 81 Turbo.

It has a Red/Silver 2-tone on the front with some smoke and an 80's chick.

I'll post pictures in a new post tonight. Hopefully we can get a good collection of brochures posted on this site.
