Tire won't inflate

Today I went to the gas station to put some air in my tires. I had no problems with the two back tires. But I couldn't add air to the front tires, as if the tire valve wasn't opening. The tires aren't flat...they have about 20 PSI in them, but I can't increase the pressure. When I pushed the female end of the compressor hose over the back tire valves, it was relatively quiet and filled the tires. But when I tried it on the front tire, I could hear the air going everywhere...except into my tire. No amount of fiddling with the valve, trying to reposition it fixed the problem. I tried this at two different gas stations and had the same problem.

Is it possible that the valves are defective? These tires aren't even that old...I think I'll go to a tire shop tomorrow and have them check it out.

Re: Tire won't inflate

stick something pointy in the stem to see if it releases the air.'

But it is probably operator error. ;-)

Re: Tire won't inflate

the valve might have come loose and partially unscrewed itself inside the stem, the shop should fix ya up for free.Matt

I'm freakin' awesome

So anyways...I didn't feel like going to the gas station again to use their compressor...and I reeeeeeeaaally didn't feel like going to the tire shop tomorrow. So what does a bicycle fanatic do? He goes out with a freakin bike pump! And the whole time I'm thinking..."Yeah right...fat chance...no way the valves will fit together...but wait...whats this? They're identical!"

So here I am, out in the freezing cold apartment complex parking lot in shorts and a t-shirt, working the bike pump with one hand, and holding a...you guessed it...a bicycle light in the other hand...inflating those tires and laughing my azz off the whole time because I can't believe this is actually working! I think the other tenants are used to this kind of shenanagenz by now...

And let me tell ya what...that bicycle pump has an awesome guage on it...all the way up to 160 PSI...not that I'll ever see that on my car (100 PSI is only moderate for my bike tires though). Much better than the ones at the gas station!

Okay...this rant is ending in 3...2...1...

Re: Tire won't inflate

You could go to any locak Kmart or Wal Mart and buy yourself a valve stem remover and remove and tighten it yourself. Cost is about 2-3 dollars.

Re: Tire won't inflate

but then it could always be one of those cheap azzed coin operated poor excuse for a compressor they have at the convenience stores. Sometimes they can't keep up when you're trying to air up more than a couple of tires at a time.

That's why I bought myself a compressor for home use. 11 gal 3 hp for $20. Wasn't my fault the guy selling it didn't check it out further before putting it for sale for $20. I got it working before leaving his house with it. ;-)

Cheap azz coin operated compressor it was...but screw that! My bike pump is free...unless you want to count the cost of food and calories burned... ;-)
