Default 280Z engine swaps

I'm sure someone may have asked this before, but I am looking at buying a 75-79 280z and I want to update the powerplant whenever I get it. Does anyone know what all is needed in sticking in a RB series nissan engine/tranny combo? I would probably look for the later rb25det or rb26dett...

It's 1975-1978 280Z. No offense, but if you don't even know the years the car was made, an engine swap is not a good idea. It's best to wait until you know quite a bit about the car before you swap the engine.

I'm going to ask you nicely to please search the archives.

Trust me, some of the others won't be so nice!

GavinB, check out castlemain rod shop near Bendigo Australia for RB Engine Mounts, they have RB30 -> L28 mounts sitting on the shelf most of the time.

And www.hybridz.org - they do that kinda stuff alot. I'm still choosing between an RB25DET and 1JZ-GTE conversion.

I'll let everyone else tell you about the SEARCH button.......

Check out HybridZ.org As far as putting in an RB it's not exactly a bolt in matter, although Mickiny motorsports now has a kit for the RB26 but that will set ya back a lot of money. The RB25 I hear isn't as hard and it is a lot cheaper, you also can use the transmision that comes with it. Were as the RB26 requires a different transmision. I don't know much about RB swaps or anything for that matter so I could be wrong on some stuff.

Sure you can put in an RB motor but it will cost a lot of money as it isn't a bolt in job. I'm assuming you want to "update" it by means of power. Even using the stock non turbo engine that comes with it if you build it right you can get the car to run 12's. Still going that route costs a lot of money but it has been done a lot and there are several people here that can tell you how to do it. On the other hand the easiest and cheapest way to get power is to simply drop in the 81-83 280zx turbo motor. It' bolts right in, cheap to do, and has plenty of power potential. The RB is a great motor but for the cost the 280zx turbo motor would be a better choice.

NO need. You can get into the 13's or 12's NA with a L28 motor.
