Default door panel fiberboard repair?

I was curious if anyone had success in repairing the fiberboard on a door panel (240Z) especially around where the clips go? Is there a way to straighten the fiberboard if it is bent on the corner? I was thinking of using fiberglass to repair ther fiberboard.
Thansk for any suggestions.

Dan:

I have done repairs on my 240 door panels for the same reasons.

The fibreboard is very porous, it will soak up any low viscosity fluid, so I used superglue to flood the area around the clip holes, which then hardened nicely. I kept some clamping pressure pressure on the area to help flatten and constrain the board during curing. Accelerator helps.

Depending on the condition of the fibreboard surrounding the holes, you could use a fibreglass repair patch is the damage is more widespread. Fiberglass resin would likely also soak in and do much the same as superglue.

Fibreglass in general would be a good repair solution for most of your problems.

Jim

Another thing you can do is replace the fiberboard with new. Go to your local Upholstery store and ask fo backing board.

I contact cemented sheet metal pieces around the bad areas with a hole punched in it for the clip. It worked great.

I was going to post pictures but my son has my camera and the panels have been sent out to be recovered. Basically what I did was put some super glue around each clip hole to strengthen the area , it worked very good. As far as straightening the panel I put the super glue on the corner area then placed books on top of the panel to flatten it out, this also worked very well. I opted not to use fiberglass for repairs due to cold temps and the smell of the fiberglass was going to be too much for the house. For fixing a break by where the dood handles goes I used a two part epoxy for reshafting golf shafts and that worked very well. Thanks for all the responses.
